USA Rugby High Performance and USA YOUTH HIGH SCHOOL RUGBY (USA YHS)
  - HIGH SCHOOL PATHWAY PROGRAM - INFORMATION - COVENTRY RUGBY

USA Rugby High Performance (HP) has opened its application window for the 2024-2025 pathway program for American high school-aged players.

‘The National High School Pathway’ is designed to identify, select, and help develop a large pool of aspiring U15-U18 players nationwide. Through 2025 the program will ramp-up, selecting and annually enrolling 375+ boys and girls ages 15-18.

Made possible by a collaboration with USA Youth and High School Rugby, the program includes coordinated player identification programs, regional and national development assemblies – and a novel ‘virtual academy.’

Application to the USA Rugby HPs National High School Pathway and virtual academy is free to players selected. Over a period of time, a series of talent identification processes, including: player profiles, 3rd party recommendations, fitness and skill assessments, film reviews and talent identification assemblies will narrow the applicant pool into the virtual academy for U15, U16, U17 and U18 cohorts.

The application process is the first step. Players who apply are not automatically ‘selected’ for the HS Pathway, but instead are enrolled to begin the process of progressive evaluation over several months.

High School Pathway Program Overview
The High School Pathway program is a collaborative effort between USA Rugby High Performance and USA Youth & High School Rugby. This initiative aims to identify, select, and progressively develop a large pool of 15-18-year-old players nationwide. The program is designed to:

‍• Enroll over 375 boys and girls aged 15-18 annually, in a sustained development environment.
• Provide a virtual curriculum focusing on skill development, strength and conditioning, and rugby IQ.  This programming is facilitated by 6 Degrees, through Nick Leah, former Brumbies Academy Manager, and Mick Byrne, World Cup winner as the All Blacks skills coach, and current Fiji men’s head coach.
• Offer in-person talent identification and player development camps.
• Create a pathway for players to progress into age-grade national teams and potentially senior national teams.

"This program represents a further step forward in our efforts to develop young rugby talent across the country," said Brendan Keane, USA Rugby's Director of High Performance. "Through collaboration with USA Youth & High School, Collegiate Rugby Association of America (CRAA) and Major League Rugby partners, we're creating a comprehensive pathway for aspiring players to reach their full potential."
